Hey everyone, my name is Abigail McKinney and I recently joined the 61 Isaiah school team! I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself and share some of my story.
I am from Tyler, Texas and just graduated from Texas A&M (whoop!) in May. Some of my favorite things in life are coffee, playing the piano, movie nights with friends, talking about the Lord, tacos, working out, chocolate, the aggies, and science. 🙂
I first heard about 61 Isaiah through a ministry in Texas called IGo Global during college. Through IGo, I was able to come to Honduras as a summer missionary in 2022 and serve during team season. This was my first mission trip out of the country and I knew the Lord was calling me to mission work so I was excited to see more of what that would look like.
I enjoyed getting to walk alongside the 61 Isaiah team that summer, but unfortunately I got pretty sick during my time here. Honestly, when I left at the end of the five weeks, I was glad I had gone, but did not want to or have plans to go back because I did not want to be that miserable again.
However, God had other plans. I had kept in contact with some of the 61 Isaiah staff and after praying about it, I decided to give Honduras another chance and come back as a summer missionary in 2023. This time, I had a much better experience. I was working on a degree in kinesiology and I love to teach and so I started considering coming back to Gracias after graduation to teach at Vida Abundante School.
I got home, prayed about this decision and here I am! I moved here in June, so I had the chance to serve as a summer missionary for my third summer before school started. I currently teach biology, chemistry and physics at Vida Abundante. One of my favorite parts about school is that I have the opportunity to share my love for science with my students and hopefully help prepare them for college (or whatever comes next!) while also getting to know them and share Jesus with them.
There is no greater honor in life than to share Jesus with others no matter where we are! I am thankful that the Lord has me in Honduras in this season and that I get to share Him with my students here. I would appreciate all of your prayers and am excited to join the team!
