Inner Strength

Inner Strength

She is more than just a 17 year old girl or a student or even my daughter’s mentor. She is the picture of inner strength, which is rare to find. Born to parents who could not raise her, she was given to her elderly grandmother to raise. About 9 months ago, her grandmother was diagnosed with cancer and needed to move to the capital to receive the needed treatment. This young girl is given money twice a month and is expected to pay all the bills for the house and school as well as buy anything needed for herself and the house. She has done it all, while still attending school full time, being a mentor and being active in the community. It is obvious that she is capable and independent… and yet still in need of a Savior. Last week, after taking time to come to Bella’s birthday party, she attended church with Frank and Melissa. When the gospel presentation was given, she accepted Christ as her Lord. I am thrilled to now call this young lady, Linda Alvarado, my friend and sister in Christ. She is the perfect example of this verse and I look forward to seeing what God has in store for such an amazing young lady “Your beauty should not be an external one… Instead, it should be the inner disposition of the heart, consisting in the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which God values greatly” (1 Peter 3: 3-4)
