Jerzon is a fifteen year old boy who lives in the village of San Lucas. At the age of four, he started to develop lesions in his skin. Over the last eleven years, Jerzon has been hospitalized several times and seen by many doctors, but nobody was able to determine his diagnosis. As the years passed by, the scabs on his face were more extensive and the slow and inefficient scarring process has been affecting his eyes and skin, leaving him trapped in a very concerning social stigma.
We started working with Jerzon and his family about two years ago. He went through many diagnosis and treatments without results. With the collaboration of Dr. Melissa Cañas, we committed ourselves to find a conclusive diagnosis for Jerzon and we started a thorough investigation process in May, 2015 but it wasn’t untill September 1 that we had an answer with the cooperation of Carol Reese from Marble Falls, Texas and other doctors from the US and Honduras. Since then, we actively started and participated in Jerzon’s treatment seeing results daily.
The last few months have been both challenging and rewarding. The greatest reward is the relationship we have established with Jerzon and his family and the spiritual growth that we have been part. And although Jerzon’s physical healing is more than evident, there is so much more work to do, especially in the plastic surgery part.
It’s our hope to continue to walk through this journey with Jerzon to provide him a permanent healing and the bright future God has already prepared for him, his family and his entire community.
